The ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards and The ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards support young composers under 30 years of age.
The Overture Awards is a program that recognizes, encourages and rewards excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12. Its mission is to encourage arts education as an integral part of a student’s academic experience and to create an environment that encourages training in, and appreciation of, the arts. The Overture Awards Scholarship Competition is the area’s largest solo arts competition and offers scholarships in six artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theater, visual art, and vocal music. Students may win a $3,500 scholarship (one awarded in each discipline) or a $750 finalist scholarship (a total of 18 awarded). Judges at all levels of the competition are drawn from the professional arts community.
Now in its 27th year, The Music Center’s Spotlight program is a free nationally-acclaimed recognition and scholarship program for Southern California high school performing artists. Spotlight provides a unique learning opportunity for students of all talent levels and experience. Performance categories are acting, ballet, non-classical dance, classical voice, non-classical voice, classical instrumental and jazz instrumental. We are much more than a competition! A key part of our mission is providing students with experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and their careers. Every applicant is privately auditioned by professionals and receives a letter evaluating strengths and suggesting areas for improvement. Special master classes, clinics and academies are open to all students. Finalists perform on stage at The Walt Disney Concert Hall! Spotlight has launched numerous professional careers and provides over $100,000 annually in scholarships.
Texas Young Masters is a joint program of the Texas Cultural Trust and the Texas Commission on the Arts and awards grants to talented young artists in grades 8-11 to further their studies in their chosen field.
