Award Season is in full swing, which means more congratulations are in order for YoungArts alumni who were honored at the 2017 SAG Awards. The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center on January 29, 2017 to honor the best achievements in primetime television and motion picture performances for the year 2016.
Congratulations to YoungArts alumni Viola Davis and Sarah Paulson for their outstanding performances!
"What August did so beautifully is he honored the average man, who happened to be a man of color," she said at the podium. "And sometimes we don't have to shake the world and move the world and create anything that is going to be in the history book. The fact that we breathed and lived a life and was a god to our children, just that, means that we have a story and it deserves to be told. We deserve to be in the canon of any -- in the center of any narrative that's written out there. And that's what August did. He elevated my father, my mother, my uncles who had eighth and fifth grade educations, and he just encapsulated them in history."

"I just wanted to have an opportunity to mention the inclusivity that I think is required right now and the ACLU to me represents that across the board. It’s an odd thing because it’s been a very celebratory time in my life … and at the same time it’s dovetailing with a sort of interesting time. I feel the duality. It feels like a grave time."
