“Over the past decade, Derrick Adams’s versatile oeuvre has made him one of the most intriguing figures in the contemporary art world.” – Larry Ossei-Mensah, Whitewall, 2012

Derrick Adams is a multidisciplinary New York-based artist who has received critical acclaim, most recently for his exhibitions at Pioneer Works and Culture Club. He is also a YoungArts master teacher who has worked with winners through our national and regional programs in Miami and New York. On August 3, Adams led a portfolio review session and private tour of his exhibition, ON, with high school art students in MoCADA’s Apprentice Program (MAP).  Encouraging these young artists to pursue their craft, Adams spoke about the YoungArts application process and the opportunities that come with having a strong work ethic as an artist. The workshop was followed by an in-depth portfolio critique, where students received input from Adams and learned a new approach of examining their art works.
