On September 16, 2016, YoungArts alumnus David Stewart (2012 Winner in Theater and Voice) met with students at ZUMIX, an East-Boston based non-profit organization, to introduce the students to YoungArts.

During the visit, Stewart shared his personal YoungArts story and experiences, inspired the young talents to apply to YoungArts, familiarized them with the application process, answered their questions, and provided portfolio preparation advice.

“The presentation was very nice,” said Sarah Saydun, MPF Pathways Coordinator at ZUMIX. “David is clearly passionate about YoungArts and he got some of our youth very excited about applying.”

As a national organization, YoungArts promotes the arts as a viable and rewarding career path to young talents across the US. ZUMIX operates in East Boston and provides access to top-quality arts experiences for a low-income, under-served neighborhood. The organization is dedicated to building community through music and the arts, and a core belief at the organization is that music is the most powerful means of developing adolescent self-identity using programming designed to equip youth with the tools necessary to reach their full potential, while creating a safe space for youth to explore who they are and who they want to be.
