Choreography
CHOREOGRAPHY REQUIREMENTS
Participants are required to submit a videotaped audition that must include at least one piece choreographed entirely by the participant. Choreography in all forms of dance may be submitted. Pieces should be from two to five minutes in length, the total submission cannot exceed eight minutes. The number of dancers must be two or more. Participants will be judged on concept, clarity of purpose of the dance; movement invention, exploration of movement to the purpose of the dance; development of thematic material; choreographic texture and individuality of creative voice. Participants in traditional dance forms must show originality of form and presentation of traditional material as well as originality in conceptual ideas.
NOTE: If you are chosen as a YoungArts Week finalist as a choreographer, YoungArts will only pay the costs associated with your participation (travel, lodging, food, etc.). If you choose to bring your dancers to Miami for YoungArts Week, you or your school will be responsible for their expenses (travel, lodging, food, etc.) as well as their supervision while in Miami. Dancers of a choreographer's work participate only in those YoungArts Week activities directly related to the coaching, judging, and presentation of the choreographer.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTENT OF CHOREOGRAPHY VIDEOTAPE/DVD AUDITION:

| 3 | Use a fixed point of view for your camera. Shoot straight on, leaving the camera in one location. | Do not pan, move the camera or follow the dancer. |

RECOMMENDATIONS
If recording your pieces onto a DVD, do not assume that our adjudicators will be able to view it. As soon as the DVD is recorded, make certain you view it in its entirety on a standard DVD player prior to submitting. Do not view your submission on a laptop or desktop as it could format the disc to play only on a computer.
NOTE: DVDs/Videotapes will not be returned. Participants should make and keep copies of all materials submitted. YoungArts is not responsible for materials lost or damaged in the mail. DVDs/Videotapes that cannot be viewed will be disqualified.
