Cinematic Arts
Requirements
Requirements vary for each discipline. Please review the specific requirements for your discipline carefully before applying to the YoungArts program.
Submission Upload Procedures
Before you can upload any of your submission materials, you must first complete the entire application. Once your main application form is complete, you will be sent, via email, a submission upload link. You will submit your materials to this link, as well as a mandatory Cinematic Arts Submission Form. In this email, you also will receive your unique YoungArts ID number. You will use this ID number on your submission materials. Please do not share your ID number or your link with anyone.
Your work will be evaluated on its merit alone in a blind adjudication process. Therefore, do not put your name or any identifying information anywhere in or on your submission materials.
Evaluation Criteria
- Storytelling -- the ability to shape a compelling and original filmic story, through the use of plot, character and theme.
- Cinematic Production Technique -- the use of all the tools of filmmaking to create a final work, including camera, lighting, editing, sound design and score, and graphic and title design.
- Directing Skills -- the control of all the above elements into a cohesive whole, shown by performances, authenticity in logic and/or emotion, and unique choices in the finished film.
PLEASE NOTE: These criteria apply to all forms of filmmaking, from narrative and documentary to animation and experimental. We are looking for original and exceptional visions.
What Panelists Look For
"The ultimate finalist is one with eyes wide open, a firm grasp on their medium, and an obvious future."
"Filmmakers are artists, not just technicians. We want people who have something of themselves to express, and can do it with flair and precision."
