National YoungArts Foundation is collaborating with the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA) for ICA Performs: Michael Clark Company.
YoungArts will host the renowned British dance company on the YoungArts Campus in a collaborative residency program that will culminate in five public presentations. The debut public performance will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 7:30pm in the YoungArts Jewel Box.
In anticipation of the company’s debut performance, an intimate conversation between Michael Clark, Alex Gartenfeld (ICA Miami’s Deputy Director and Chief Curator), and YoungArts alumna Brittany Bailey (2008 Winner in Dance) will take place inside Ted’s at YoungArts as part of the YoungArts Salon Series.
Brittany Bailey, a dancer and choreographer, is known for her intensely held postures and her unique way of contracting her body into impossibly small, curved poses. She has performed with Michael Clark Company at the Tate Modern in London, with Marina Abramović at the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, and with Public Movement at The Guggenheim Museum, NYC, to name a few.
Michael Clark Company’s new work, which will be created at YoungArts, will respond to the unique architectural spirit and cultural context of the South Florida region and will draw from Michael Clark’s own personal musical inspirations encompassing classical, rock, punk and post-punk.
