To kick off YoungArts New York, Henri Bendel New York graciously opened their store to us and our guests with a night of shopping and a performance by YoungArts alumna Kate Davis. At this year's YoungArts Los Angeles regional program, approximately 100 YoungArts winners took part in a series of master classes and workshops with renowned artists like Debbie Allen, Stephen Hartke, Malcolm Gets, Rebecca Walker and Doug Blush. The participants also had a chance to showcase their work at The Los Angeles Theatre Center for a series of performances, readings, screenings and an exhibition. We just wrapped up our YoungArts New York regional program where approximately 100 young artists attended a series of master classes and workshops with renowned artists such as Rosie Perez, Adina Hoffman, Michael Arad, Marina Abramović, Dave Eggar and Bill T. Jones; and showcased their talent in a series of performances, exhibitions and readings at The Baryshnikov Arts Center and MoMA PS1. It was a magical week!
Anna Deavere Smith: A YoungArts MasterClass

It may have been pouring rain and cold, but The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City was packed with over 200 people for a screening of the latest episode of the Emmy-nominated HBO documentary YoungArts MasterClass, featuringAnna Deavere Smith. Afterward, the audience participated in a Q&A with Smith as well as the YoungArts winners chosen to be a part of the project: Julian Aldana-Tejada, Analisa Gutierrez, Jaz Sinclair, Justice Smith and Joseph Wood.

Where Are They Now?
Lili Fuller (2005 Theater) and Joe Sofranko (2005 Theater) produced and star in “Complete Works” an original series where an unlikely thespian is sent to Italy to compete in the prestigious American Shakespeare Competition. “Complete Works” will be available for streaming beginning April 23 on Hulu. Mario Alberto Zambrano’s (1994 Dance) debut novel Lotería: A Novelis currently available in bookstores and online. Lotería is the story of 11-year-old Luz Castillo who becomes a ward of the state with her father in jail and her older sister in the ICU. The Fiction Writers Review calls Lotería an “emotionally stirring book,” and The Village Voice says it is “An incredible first novel.” Zambrano is currently an MFA student at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. Kira Bursky (2014 Cinema Arts) and Nick Ramey (2014 Cinema Arts) were both selected for the first annual White House Student Film Festival where they screened their films “PIP” about a young boy who dreams of becoming an astronaut, and “Hello from Malaysia” where an exchange student makes a connection to her American classmates.
