National Headquarters
YoungArts is a national foundation based in Downtown Miami. The YoungArts campus has transformed the iconic former Bacardi Complex into a multidisciplinary campus for artists, creative workers and cultural partners to convene, create and build community.
Situated on the traditional homeland of Native nations, including the Tequesta, the Calusa, the Taíno and today the Miccosukee and the Seminole, YoungArts believes that Indigenous peoples are the traditional custodians of all lands. YoungArts pays respect to their Elders, past, present and future; and recognizes their continued existence and contributions to our community.
The Tower
A rectangular seven-story structure, the Tower appears to float weightlessly over a square glass pedestal at the plaza level. The building houses the YoungArts Gallery, Ted’s at YoungArts and administrative offices.
Located on the easternmost side of the plaza facing Biscayne Boulevard, the Tower was commissioned by former Bacardi president José “Pepin” Bosch and designed by Cuban architect Enrique Gutiérrez of Saenz, Cancio, Martin and Gutiérrez.
The north and south end walls of the Tower contain panels of ribbed precast concrete with a contemporary azulejo mural created by Brazilian artist Francisco Brennand.
The Jewel Box
The Jewel Box was designed by Ignacio Carrera-Justiz of Coral Gables, Florida. The square building is raised 47 feet off the ground by a pedestal and offers an outstanding example of modern cantilever construction. The two-story space cantilevers out 24 feet from its central core on all sides as each floor is hung from 28-foot tensor rods from a reinforced roof.
Renovated by STA Architectural Group as part of Frank Gehry’s master plan for the Campus, the Jewel Box has been transformed into a flexible space for artists to work, play and create. The building encourages creativity for our performers—the second floor features a sprung dance floor, full-length mirrors and ballet barres.
The exterior is covered in thick hammered stained glass tapestries, designed by S.E.A.R. under the direction of Gabriel and Jacques Loire of Chartres, France and based on an abstract painting by German artist Johannes Dietz.
YoungArts Gallery
The two-story YoungArts Gallery, which was designed by Frank Gehry, opened in December 2013 and hosts year-round exhibitions by YoungArts guest artists, award winners and artists, including Olafur Eliasson, Daniel Arsham and Hernan Bas.
Located inside the Tower building, the YoungArts Gallery offers an immersive experience and an adaptable space for exhibits, receptions and intimate gatherings.
